Reduce cryogenic boil-off losses up to 45% with Insulon Hose with MLI

Share on:

Insulon vacuum jacketed hoses are engineered for cryogenic fluids including liquid nitrogen, hydrogen, helium, oxygen, and more. Ultra-high performance models of Insulon Hose include proprietary, high-density multi-layer insulation (MLI) to reduce boil-off material losses by up to 45%.

Setup: Two 1/2″ ID x 6′ L vacuum jacketed hoses are bent 180° into a “U” configuration. Both ends of each hose assembly are fixtured onto a load-cell. The hoses are filled with LN2. A DAQ system pulls data from both load cells to plot the mass loss of LN2 with respect to time.

Control operating costs

Cryogenic fluids are valuable materials — and they are often expensive to produce and transport. Boil-off leads to direct financial losses due to wasted materials.

Achieve thermal energy efficiency

Boil-off reduces the efficiency of cryogenic storage and transportation systems including hydrogen energy applications. More energy and resources are required to replace the lost material, creating a vicious cycle.

Maintain high quality liquids

Industrial gas suppliers work hard to deliver cryogens with as much liquid and as little has as possible. The companies that use cryogenics therefore depend on high performance insulation systems to minimize boil-off to keep the material in its liquid state.

Range of sizes

  • Inner diameters include 1/4 in, 3/8 in, 1/2 in, 3/4 in, 1 in ID
  • Lengths up to 66 feet (20 meters)
