Insulon Vacuum Jacketed Hose, 1/2″ ID, High Pressure, MLI, with outer braid. Minimum static bend radius: 6.15 in. High-pressure rated to 750 psi at RT (≤100°F / 38°C). MLI insulation blocks convection, conduction, and radiation heat transfer. Outer braid adds abrasion resistance for rugged handling, dragging, and mobile transfer applications. Does not affect pressure rating, insulation level, or operating temperature range. Rated operating temperature: -270°C to 815°C (-454°F to 1500°F). Description
Insulon Vacuum Jacketed Hose with outer braid — 1/2″ ID, High Pressure, MLI. Inner bore: 316/316L stainless steel, fully annealed corrugated tube. Tube stub OD: 0.500″. Minimum static bend radius (static installations): 6.15 in. Insulation: MLI variants add proprietary high-density multi-layer insulation inside the vacuum annulus, blocking convection, conduction, and radiation heat transfer for maximum thermal performance. Pressure rating: High Pressure, rated to 750 psi at RT at room temperature (≤100°F / 38°C). MAWP decreases at elevated fluid temperatures — see derating table below.
The stainless steel outer braid is added over the standard Insulon hose vacuum jacket. It provides abrasion resistance and physical protection for use in rugged environments including:
- Truck and trailer sample lines
- Bulk gas delivery and mobile LOX, LIN, and LAr transfers
- Temporary lines routed across concrete, asphalt, or gravel
- Mobile dewar connections with frequent connect/disconnect cycles
- Any application where hoses are subject to dragging, foot traffic, or handling wear
The outer braid does not affect the inner bore size, pressure rating, insulation level, operating temperature range, or compatible fluids. It increases the outer diameter of the assembly.
Compatible Fluids for Insulon Vacuum Jacketed Hose
- Cryogenic liquids: LN2, LHe, LAr, LOX, LNG, LCH4, liquid CO2
- Hydrogen: liquid hydrogen (LH2) and gaseous hydrogen (GH2). 316/316L SS resists hydrogen embrittlement.
- Thermal fluids: glycol/water mixtures, Syltherm 800, Syltherm XLT, Dowtherm Q/J, synthetic HTFs
- High-temperature fluids: steam, hot air, exhaust gases, process heating oils
- Specialty and process gases: GN2, GHe, GAr, semiconductor process gases
- Corrosive media: optional PTFE, PFA, or FEP fluoropolymer liner available
Insulon Hose Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) by Fluid Temperature — 1/2″ ID, High Pressure
MAWP is constant from cryogenic temperatures through room temperature (≤100°F / 38°C). For fluid temperatures above 100°F, use the derating table below. Round UP to the next 100°F row for conservatism (e.g., a 320°F system uses the 400°F row). All assemblies are pressure tested at 1.5× MAWP per NAHAD Corrugated Metal Hose Assembly Specification Guidelines.

- Does adding an outer braid to Insulon Vacuum Jacketed Hose affect the pressure rating?No, adding an outer braid does not affect the pressure rating. Insulon Vacuum Jacketed Hose include the option to add an outer braid to provide additional protection against abrasion. For example, in an application where the hose will be repeatedly dragged across a concrete floor, adding an outer braid is recommended.
- Are end fittings already attached to InsulonĀ® Hoses?
Depending on the type of end fitting selected, the fitting will either be installed on the hose before shipment or will be delivered in-box.

- Can InsulonĀ® vacuum jacketed hoses be ordered in longer sections and cut to length?No, InsulonĀ® Vacuum Jacketed Hoses cannot be cut to length after delivery. They must be ordered in the appropriate size for installation. InsulonĀ® Vacuum Jacketed Hose are available in lengths up to 65 feet. Multiple sections of hose can be joined with compression unions to achieve runs longer than 65 feet.

- Does Standard or MLI affect the pressure rating?
The maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) guidelines for Standard and MLI hoses are exactly the same. Only the pressure specification (Low Pressure or High Pressure) affects the pressure rating.
